The US government recorded a budget deficit of $ 108 million for the month of March, more than double the amount for the same period last year, said the Treasury Department on Tuesday.
The government had a deficit of $ 53 million in March 2015, according to the monthly Treasury budget statement. Analysts had forecast a deficit of $ 104 billion last month.
Accounting for the calendar adjustments, March would have shown a deficit of $ 102 billion, compared with an adjusted deficit of $ 89 billion in March 2015.
The current fiscal deficit for the year to date was $ 461 billion, up 5 percent from a deficit of $ 439 million last year.
Revenues last month amounted to $ 228 million, while expenses totaled $ 336 billion.
